Statistics and Demographics
EdWeb and Community Learning Network maintain a good list of educational listservs. In addition to Discussion & Information Lists. allows you to search for Usenet Newsgroups and FTP sites.
Education World - Education World is a resource geared toward K-12 educators that includes: a search engine for educational Web sites, downloadable lesson plans, practical information for educators, information on how to integrate technology in the classroom, and articles written by education experts. Its size can be a disadvantage because you often end up with a huge list of sites in alphabetical order to sift through.

Homework Central - With over 250,000 sites this site is by far the largest site for educational research. It also includes 64 special education search engines and 50 special education indexes. A great place to go for educational research.

Kids Count 
Statistics on the education, economic, social and physical well-being of children in the U.S. Site allows you to generate custom graphs, maps, ranked lists, and state-by-state profiles or download the entire data set.
Population Reference Bureau Timely and objective information on U.S. and international population trends and their implications. Topics include the environment, AIDS, aging, education, family planning, gender, health, poverty, mortality, policy, and race.
U.S. Census Bureau Fact Finder Population, housing, economic, and geographic data for the United States

ClipMarks is the premier online clipmarking tool. You can save chunks of any webpage and share them too.
iLighter is simply a tool that lets you highlight portions of any webpage. You can then save those highlighted pages to your own notebooks on their site.
Twitterlights works with your iLighter account. Whatever you highlight and save can be sent to your twitter account automatically.
Dappad is a Firefox extension that lets you create notebooks in the firefox sidebar for easy access.
Scrapbook is an extension that mimics Opera’s Notes feature. Cool features include highlighter and eraser.
NetNotes is a Firefox add-on that lets you store notes on websites.

Transcription Tools
iLeonardo combines search methodologies, social bookmarks and social networks to produce relevant search results and ranking determined by people.
Google Notebook is like Google Docs mixed with Google Bookmarks. You can save just about anything you want while surfing the Web to any of your notebooks with a simple click. You can keep it private or share them. Not only does it save the content but also the link to the source for easy reference.
UberNote offers many ways to save your research notes: via a toolbar that you add to your browser, email, instant messenger, mobile device or even on their own website.
RefWorks is a web-based personal database for storing, organizing, and formatting you citations.
Zotero [zoh-TAIR-oh] is a free, easy-to-use Firefox extension to help you collect, manage, and cite your research sources. It lives right where you do your work—in the web browser itself.

Transcriber is a tool for assisting the manual annotation of speech signals. It provides a user-friendly graphical user interface for segmenting long duration speech recordings, transcribing them, and labeling speech turns, topic changes and acoustic conditions. It is more specifically designed for the annotation of broadcast news recordings, for creating corpora used in the development of automatic broadcast news transcription systems.
VoiceWalker is a transcriber's tool, designed to help you transcribe audio or video recordings. VoiceWalker lets you play back the sound in a controlled way, with the benefit of being able to systematically step (or "walk") through a recording, repeating short segments for a specified number of repetitions, then moving on to the next segment.
transcana is software for professional researchers who want to analyze digital video or audio data. Transana lets you analyze and manage your data in very sophisticated ways. Transcribe it, identify analytically interesting clips, assign keywords to clips, arrange and rearrange clips, create complex collections of interrelated clips, explore relationships between applied keywords, and share your analysis with colleagues.
EXMARaLDA is an acronym of "Extensible Markup Language for Discourse Annotation". It is a system of concepts, data formats and tools for the computer assisted transcription and annotation of spoken language, and for the construction and analysis of spoken language corpora.
